The Supreme Court is the most powerful judicial power in the United States. The Supreme Court draws a boundary between government powers. The power of the Supreme Court depends on the trust of the people in the United States. For instance, the Supreme Court was set into a decline when they made the wrong decision on the Dredd Scott case, causing a self inflicted would that would take many years to build back up the trust of the people. The Supreme Court is not able to make changes to the country whenever they like. They have to wait until the issue has gotten confronted enough and is brought to the Court. Enough petitions have to be made and sent to the Court for it to be addressed
There have been just over 100 Justices in the history of the Supreme Court, beginning with John Marshall. The justices are set in the Supreme Court to interpret a 200 year old Constitution, which is an advantage to the justices now. It is an advantage to the justices because they also get to use 200 years of history also. Each justice decides their own case. Each week justices meet to decide which petitions are going to be accepted or denied. When in the courtroom, each justice speaks once about the subject before anyone gets to speak twice. They must have an answer to the case before they walk into the court.
In the courtroom, the justices have oral argument for an hour long, asking the hard questions to really dig deep into the problem. Having oral arguments add an emotional aspect to the Court. The Court has a conversation with themselves with an intermediary of an attorney. Keep in mind, the Supreme Court is a public courtroom, and you can see the thought process behind what is passed to the rest of the United States.
The first draft of the courts opinion is sent out after 4 weeks of the meeting. Justices end up switching sides often, sometimes making the descending opinion the majority opinion. The final draft ranges from 1-80 pages.
Before this video, I barely knew anything about the Supreme Court. Now that I have watched this video, I feel as if I understand what the Supreme Court is and how it works. https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/courtbuilding.aspx]
